Holiday Photos
I’ve spent all morning trying to organize my holiday photos. Why is this so difficult? From multiple sources to multiple services, nobody plays nice with each other. I’m a believer in keeping my photos in one central, organized location and then posting them out to everyone. So, being a mac fan boy, my natural inclination is to use iPhoto as my main location. Which, in theory, makes...

PBS Announces Season 2 of Downton Abbey in HD as... →
shaneguiter: Downton Abbey resumes the story of aristocrats and servants in the tumultuous World War I era. The miniseries is written by Julian Fellowes and stars Dame Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, and a drawing room full of new actors, portraying the loves, feuds, and sacrifices of a glittering culture thrown into crisis. Many of my colleagues in Public Media worry that...

Complicated
Every time I visit my parents I’m reminded how complicated computers still are for some people. Yes, even Apple. With multiple software and application versions across multiple devices it can be very confusing. My father got his first computer only about 8 years ago and then his first Mac Mini 4 years ago. Ever since that time though, he’s been a devoted Apple fan. In fact, I remember...

Tumblr Had 42 Hours of Downtime in 2011 -... →
shaneguiter: Tumblr, the fast-growing blogging social network, goes down a lot. How much? It had 42 hours of downtime in 2011, by far the most among major blogging hosts, according to Pingdom. However, that’s a significant improvement from 2010. Tumblr had more downtime in two months in 2010 than in the first 11 months of 2011, Pingdom said. This year the longest Tumblr outage was three...

Cloud Storage to the MAX
Seems like everyone is offering to host your data in ‘the cloud’ these days. There are some new faces like Box, some older players making new in-roads with users like Microsoft’s Skydrive, music servers such as Amazon’s Cloud Drive, Google Music, & Apple’s iCloud. And there there is the reigning champ, Dropbox. Take your pick.

Why did Path add "Sleeping" as one of its five...
Path’s CEO Dave Morin answers this question on Quora: We are now in the Post-PC, Mobile era. In the PC era we would often ask: are you online or offline? In the Mobile era this is no longer the case. You are simple sleeping or awake. […] Third, users tell us that they love getting our notifications during the day, but at night they would prefer if the notifications were not streaming in....

It's Not Just the Cable Companies I'm Worried...
There’s been a lot of worry lately in the industry about consumers detaching from cable companies and ‘cutting the chord’. Up until now, it hasn’t raised that many red flags for me because whether a consumer watches PBS through a television set or through an app of some kind, I know that we can find a viable way to distribute content. Lately, it’s becoming...

Copyright's Future Citizens
What happens when — and this is inevitable — a generation completely comfortable with remix culture becomes a majority of the electorate, instead of the fringe youth? What happens when they start getting elected to office?  That thought just jolted me upright.

IntoNow's Republican Debate
Last night Yahoo’s IntoNow app made a nice entry into main stream by promoting & utilizing their TV check-in app. Over the course of the debate, if users had downloaded & had the app open, the app would show relevant information about the debate and candidates. Overall, it was a very nice experience, but it did come with a few rough edges. Here are a few screenshots and my thoughts...

Path & Tumblr - Photo Posts Suggestion
Might I humbly make a recommendation Path? When posting a photo through Path to Tumblr some important information is, IMHO, translated incorrectly. Below is a photo I took and posted through Path to Tumblr. As you can see, the photo came through perfect. But, what got lost was my comment from Path. I also believe, but I could be in the minority here, that Path’s URL link should not be...

Gowalla: Gowalla is Going to Facebook →
gowalla: Three years ago Gowalla’s journey began when I took a photograph of Lake Tahoe on my iPhone. I had just finished a phone call with my dad, and I wanted nothing more than to share that photo and place with him. Not just in a text message or status update sort of way, but with a bit of weight… Crikey mate.
