Writers Judging Design
Listen up writers, bloggers, and your cohorts.
Next time you review an app, show some screenshots and let them speak for themselves. If you don’t like the visuals of the design, fine, say so. But clearly state it as opinion, not fact.
You’re completely allowed to say, “I don’t like the look of this app.” Or, “I think this app is unattractive.” But you have NOT earned the right to call an app, “unpolished” or that it “needs design help”. That is, unless you preface those descriptions with, “In my opinion…”
For that matter, you’re not allow to call an app, “pixel perfect” or ” one of the most beautifully designed apps I’ve ever seen.”
You’re a writer. Write. Describe your experience with the app and if your publication allows, give your opinion. But don’t make it seem like you actually have taste or that you know design and therefore you’re able to tell me, what is well designed and what is not.
This is my dance space. That is your dance space. Now. Let’s cha cha.
