Ken Burns

Ken Burns

Every Ken Burns film has its own voice. Over the years, I’ve worked alongside multiple design agencies and in-house teams to help bring that voice to screen—film after film.

Summary

Over the years, I contributed to the broadcast and promotional design for more than eight Ken Burns documentaries, ranging from The Tenth Inning to The Vietnam War. Each film presented a distinct creative challenge—demanding a visual approach that respected the historical weight of the subject while supporting contemporary broadcast and promotional needs.

Working across multiple productions, I collaborated with a range of design agencies and in-house teams, each bringing a unique creative voice to its respective film. In some cases, the work was developed externally; in others, it was produced entirely in-house. My role was to help guide and integrate these efforts—ensuring the design, animation, and editorial elements aligned with the tone, pacing, and storytelling standards synonymous with Ken Burns’ work.

Across all projects, the goal remained consistent: support the films with thoughtful, restrained design that elevated the storytelling without overshadowing it—honoring the material while helping audiences connect more deeply with the stories being told.
